Pénétrable (1992) is one of the last monumental works by Jesús Rafael Soto, a key figure of Kinetic Art and modern Latin American abstraction. Comprised of flexible PVC tubes suspended from a painted metal structure, it creates an immersive environment in which the viewer’s physical engagement activates the work, revealing Soto’s exploration of vibration, perception, and the dematerialization of the object.

Soto produced only about thirty Pénétrables, each conceived as a distinct experiment in the relationship between body and space. This example, created in Paris and shown in prominent European retrospectives in the early 1990s, remained in storage for more than two decades.

Its reactivation in 2023 as the central piece of The Instability of the Real at Galería RGR reintroduced it into contemporary discourse, underscoring its role as a synthesis of the artist’s late conceptual thinking.

In 2025, its selection for the Meridians section at Art Basel Miami Beach reaffirms both its historical significance and its ongoing relevance within the global artistic context.
