Biography

Jose Planas Casas - Artists - GALERÍA RGR

(Gerona, Spain, 1900 - Santa Fe, Argentina, 1960)

Jose Planas Casas was a sculptor, painter, and engraver. He settled in Argentina in 1911 and adopted his citizenship in 1925.

He trained at the School of the Estímulo de Bellas Artes Association and, later, at the Argentine Institute of Graphic Arts, where he also worked. He set up a studio together with Pompeyo Audivert, Manuel Colmeiro, and Demetrio Urruchúa. In 1939, he joined the surrealist group Orión. He had an important pedagogical work by serving as Professor and Director of the Provincial School of Fine Arts of Santa Fe.

He died in Santa Fe, Argentina in 1960.
